Dr. Cha Chi Ming<\/span><\/p>\n Founder of the Qiu Shi Science & Technologies Foundation<\/p>\n Dr. Cha Chi Ming (1914-2007) was an innovative industrialist and successful entrepreneur. Born in Haining in China\u2019s Zhejiang Province, Dr. Cha studied textile technology at the Dyeing and Textile Faculty of the advance engineering high school affiliated with Zhejiang University, and apprenticed in Shanghai and Changzhou.<\/p>\n Soon after relocating to Hong Kong, Dr. Cha established China Dyeing Works Limited in 1949, which helped drove Hong Kong\u2019s post-war textile industry and became Asia\u2019s most advanced dyeing factory in the 1990s. Over subsequent decades, he built a diversified enterprise spanning textiles, real estate, and international ventures.<\/p>\n The Cha Group\u2019s textile factories grew across West Africa, United States, and Britain starting in the 1960s, and employed tens of thousands across geographies.<\/p>\n The real estate business started in 1977 became HKR International Limited, which was publicly-listed in Hong Kong in 1989. The Cha Group\u2019s flagship project, Discovery Bay in Hong Kong is internationally renowned with its pioneering and unique design and the township community since the 1970s.<\/p>\n Dr. Cha also contributed to public-service in Hong Kong and was amongst the first recipients of the Grand Bauhinia Medal in 1997 from the Hong Kong SAR Government.<\/p>\n Dr. Cha left an enduring legacy through philanthropy. He created and endowed the Qiu Shi Science and Technologies Foundation in 1994, elevating the visibility and supporting the research of Chinese scientists.
